Gumboot Friday!

Gumboot Friday

Hey bloggers if you did not know it was Gumboot Friday on Friday the 5th April. Gumboot Friday is a day where people are encouraged to wear their gumboots to support Mental Health. Bad Mental Health is a feeling that means people think the worst of themselves and think they can’t do things. So on Gumboot Friday the Senior Syndicate had to write kindness cards to lift up people's feelings. This idea came from a senior named Neeve when we did the Healthy Puketapapa Student Questionnaire. Neeve picked Mental Health and said that we should put some kindness notes in random people’s letter boxes around the community. So that’s what we did. Unfortunately we did not get to put them in people’s letter boxes on Friday. So we had to do it on Tuesday the 9th. On the actual Gumboot Friday all the teachers wore their gumboots to raise money for people Who actually have Mental Health issues. So far there has been $1,031,411.28 raised for people with Mental Health problems. Gumboot Friday was begun by a person thought that if you don't have a bad well-being or bad mental health. It's like your brain is struggling to get through a lake of mud. In this case the mud is the bad thought. You need boots to get through the mud so we wear gumboots to help people get through the mud. This year the person that is the head or leader of Gumboot Friday is named Mike King. Hauora - Well Being that is our main Inquiry topic this year. Well being means your condition and whether your happy and healthy. If you are sad you probably have a bad mental health. We have had 2 people call the school saying thank you for the messages. One of them was a boy his mum said that these notes really helped him with his Mental Health and it made his day. That felt like a great achievement.I think we should continue to do this it helps people that are suffering with bad Mental Health.

Tread Lightly Caravan 2019

Hey there bloggers!
Today I will be blogging about the Tread Lightly Caravan.
The Tread Lightly Caravan is a programme for schools.
In this programme they show the problems of what is happening to the Ocean when we put rubbish, oil and paint down it. When we do this all the things that I listed go straight to the Sea where it kills all the animals and creatures living in the water. They also have a VR ( Virtual reality) system where you sit down and hold it to your face to see what the expert team has been reasearching about. VR shows very crazy things there were birds that have eaten plastic and died. It was very sad. They also showed in a second clip a video of them testing the waters of ocean
s to see how many of them were polluted or not polluted they were also wanting to see how much of the fish were eating plastic. Around half of the water they tested had been polluted and fish had eaten the plastic. There were three differnt types of activities. There was an ativity where we had to look for all the drains in the school. There was the drain activity about the paint stuff. Then there was the VR.

Here are some photos of us it was really fun.
